CHAPTER 14

It was a Saturday, and Arnold took refuge in the fact that at least for the next two days he didn't need to go to school. It also meant he could take a rare break from practising spirit-wielding and let his body rest.

He still hadn't had any success, but Arnold was determined to succeed. He was still no nearer to finding out anything more about the mysterious creature that had attacked him at Bramley Lock-up, either.

He had his plan for the day which was to spend some time at the lock-up with Everett, George, and Marrok. Arnold had made the decision to invite Marrok after the fight at school. In defending him and taking the fall, Marrok had earned his trust.

Arnold wanted to go through some of his grandad's old books to see if they could find out anything about the spirit beast that had attacked him. Arnold was already at the lock-up and searching for a specific book he had thought he had seen when they first found his grandad's belongings. He had just finished rummaging through some old boxes when the door to the lock-up began to slide back.

"Hey." Marrok walked into the room. "Just you here?"

"Everett and George are on their way."

"What are you doing?"

Arnold picked up one box and placed it on top of another to create a bit more space for the four of them. "I'm looking for some old books. I saw one that looked like a scrapbook with drawings in it of different spirit beasts. I want to find it. I haven’t seen it since we were attacked here." There was a frantic tone to Arnold’s voice.

“I’m sure we will find it,” Marrok said, moving to the far side of the lock-up and opening one of the drawers at the bottom of a cabinet.

“It’s just, if this spirit-wielding is hereditary, maybe there is something inside that will help me.” Then Arnold thought, could his grandad spirit-wield?

"I can help. What did it look like?" Marrok said with a smile.

"It was like an old leather book with a stone in the centre of the cover, like a pale blue colour."

"Random, it can't be that hard to find."

The two of them continued rummaging around looking for it for a short while, rustling through different boxes and cabinets like burglars ransacking the room.

"You know you really should take more care of the things in here, boys."

They both turned around to see Everett and George stood at the entrance to the lock-up. Everett was looking particularly pretty today. She was wearing some dark jeans and a white vest top. George had a fifties-style dress on with little red roses all over it, along with her boots and her beanie hat.

"Arnold wants to find a book, leather thing with a bluish stone in the centre of it."

"Your grandad’s journal? Oh, I think it's over here." George walked over to a cupboard and pulled out a drawer to reveal the book stored away inside.

"Brilliant!" Arnold walked across and took the book from her and began to flick through it.
